The Uper Fagu garden is situated in Darjeeling, near the town of Sarupathar (Kalimpong district). It was abandoned for 27 years before being acquired by the current management in 1995. At the time, the garden was in total ruins and the local population were desperate. Since 1995, the new planter has undertaken a massive replanting programme using the best Darjeeling clones, and Uper Fagu now has 103 hectares of very high quality tea. The garden employees 350 permanent pluckers and 200 other staff, and plans to plant another 150 hectares in future years. All tea harvested at Uper Fagu comes from clonal bushes, some of which are 10 years old.
